Thirsty Kirsty Original

This piece began with the substrate itself. It took around two months to carefully jigsaw the circuit boards together before any paint was applied.
The background then went through several stages — first cream, then pink, before I considered taking it into a deep blue. The circuit-board surface absorbed an extraordinary amount of paint along the way, and it seemed to take layer after layer before I could achieve the depth and finish I wanted.
That is where the title Thirsty Kirsty came from — the piece simply kept drinking paint.
Only once the background is right and closely aligned with the original portrait mock-up do I begin mapping out the face. For me, the substrate and background have to feel resolved first; the portrait only begins once that foundation is working.
